When to turn off the OD on a Nissan Frontier?
The OD is just your 5th gear. You can turn it off when climbing hills at hwy speeds to keep the trans from “hunting” (shifting back and forth between 4th and 5th) which heats up the overdrive unit. ALWAYS turn it off (light ON) when towing as the OD unit generates a lot of heat and towing with it on can lead to early failure.
