Can a vacuum hose fail on a car?
As you stated, the petcock is vacuum actuated. Regardless of position, they only allow fuel to flow when the engine is able to pull vacuum. Like any component, they can fail. The fact that there is clear line running to it means someone has been working on the vehicle.
What should I do if my vacuum hose is detached?
The easiest route to remedy this is to replace the spark plugs with new ones. Prefer the NGK spark plugs, see this reference. The extra fuel itself should evaporate away. Replace the fuel petcock as previously suggested, however, also check that your oil level has not increased above its full mark.
Why is the vacuum hose not connected to my bike?
I noticed the (clear) vacuum hose was not connected where it hooks up to the petcock. After reconnecting the hose to the petcock the bike will no longer start, it will crank until the battery would die. Only once did it sputter then die out.
What to do if your vacuum brush is not working?
When you have the brush turned on, check the main vacuum unit outside and see if it is running. If it is, then check the brush and the wand you’re using for any clogs that are blocking air-flow. If the suction is not on, you need to determine if the hose or head is the issue.
What happens if the hose on a VAC breaks?

Why are my vacuum hoses not working properly?
Engine does not run smoothly. Typically the Check Engine Light will illuminate when this problem occurs, but it is possible that there could be problems with the sensors which bypass this warning. It’s for this reason that the driver is often the best source of noticing problems that are caused by vacuum hoses.
What should I do if my vacuum hose is leaking?
When the vacuum hose is broken or leaking, the sensor notices an increase or drop in pressure and will trigger the Check Engine Light to notify the driver that a problem exists. The best thing to do if the Check Engine Light comes on is to safely arrive to your destination and contact a local ASE certified mechanic.
