What happens when you drive through a puddle of water?

It same as when you drive through the puddle of water and your brakes lose braking effectiveness until they get dry again. The slave cylinder is above the transmission and if the clutch gets wet it’ll dry out pretty quickly. My best guess is that there was some oil on the underside and the water pushed the oil slick to the clutch.
