The number displayed is the average fuel consumed per mile driven. Note that this is not 100% accurate, and it is an average, not an instant reading of current fuel economy. Press the Reset button to zero out the AVG MPG reading.

On the average mpg, just press and hold the center button, then it asks if you want to reset average, you toggle down and press center button. This does not work for me…. To go into settings you press the button on the end of the stalk while settings is displayed. To reset your average mpg and the trip distance you press and hold the button in whilst on those screens. Thanks for your reply. That worked on my 05 Focus but my current car does not have that switch on the left hand stalk.

And yes you can NOT reset your ” tank average fuel economy” . But you can reset your ” average fuel economy” . You can see this on page 94 , the “2” button is available for average fuel economy and not available for the tank average fuel economy. So there you go Fshams , it took awhile to get an answer, but you probably figured this out already.
Where is the MPG reset button on a Subaru Outback?
On my 2011 Outback the button for this type of MPG readout function change is on the right side of the instrument cluster–essentially on the opposite side from the trip reset button–but yours might be different because you didn’t tell us the model year of your Outback. In any event… the Owner’s Manual will show you where this button is located.
