My xterra has been overheating when the a/c is on,and I am idling.I have read several people had the same problem. It seems the most common fix is to replace the radiator. Yes, today is one of the hotter days we’ve had in Southern Indiana this year, but not the hottest my Xterra has been in. Everything is fine while moving. Both fans are running when it goes above normal temp.

On a cold start with both coolant caps removed I let the engine idle for a few minutes and poured water into the tank and radiator until it stayed at a good level, capped the tank and radiator and hadn’t had problems what so ever.

Why does my car overheat after 20 minutes?
Within 20 minutes of driving it overheated. There are no leaks of any kind. Replaced the thermostat, flushed the radiator, refilled it with the proper coolant, burped system. Next day I drove to work without issue. Approx 25 minute drive, mostly highway. Drove home and car overheated right as I got to the driveway.
