Shocks are a wear and tear item and are not designed to be used for the lifetime of a vehicle. Manufacturer warranties on shocks or struts cover defects such as leaking oil in the product. Oil on bushings does tend to damage them. You might clean it off with a little brake cleaner or something to help protect them. BMW parts are all expensive.
