Even my 2012 Suzuki motorbike which cost about a quarter of a new XC60 can switch between the two. Come on all you XC60 UK drivers, and those in the EU who cross the channel, get emailing Volvo Customer Care with complaints; I want this changed before I come back to the EU.

It is times the MPH by 5 and then divide by 8 as a general rule of thumb to get KPH. If you want to change MPG to KPH then do the reverse. Not sure why I put 9 down initially as I knew it to be 8 – that’s what we used to do when we were travelling in Europe (in the 70’s) when there was no KPH indication on the speedo!

Why does the speedometer show a higher speed?
So the car actually knows the actual speed, but it shows higher speed as Jason already described. The speedo will have been correctly calibrated as it left the factory: with the OEM wheels, with the OEM tires, and with OEM spec inflation. Any change here can affect accuracy.
