Can you over pack an exhaust?
Overpacking can cause too much back pressure, which, yes can damage your engine or cause performance problems if its too overpacked. The noise limit is pretty high nowerdays i cant see you having huge problems with the old bill. I fail to see how over packing can cause excessive back pressure.
