After reading the code with Uprev software on a laptop and also having it read at Auto Zone I discovered the P0021 code. Strangely the Auto Zone code reader had a better description of the code, hint hint UPREV.

When there is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree, the valve will stop working and the ECM will trigger the P0021 code. This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve.
