What happens when the AWD warning light blinks?
In these cases, the AWD warning light blinks rapidly and the AWD mode changes to 2WD to protect the powertrain parts. If you stop driving with the engine idling and wait until the warning light stops blinking, the AWD returns to the AUTO mode.
What happens when I change the flashing light from 2WD to 4WD?
When change 2wd to 4wd and vice versa, the actuator moves the actuator shaft, and its position is monitored by the free wheel engage switch. If the actuator is moving and the shaft is free, then the next check is the free wheel engage switch. It either needs replacing or cleaning (bad connection).

Why are the green lights flashing on my Mk 1 / 2?
Assuming it’s a Mk 1/2, the green lights are flashing because the system thinks that the front axle freewheel unit is still engaged and is trying to disengage it (or vice versa). The system is operated via vacuum created by running engine (for petrol models) and is controlled by switches and electric solenoid valves.

Why is the 4 wheel drive light blinking?
The 4-Lo engaged the low-range transfer case for rough and challenging off-road driving. Fast forward a few decades and, enter the Actuator. The actuator is a component found mostly on modern four wheel drives and is designed to electronically engage 4 wheel drive.
How can I check if my diff lock is locked?
First of all you need to ABSOLUTELY verify your center diff is locked by jacking up the vehicle and confirming this. Second, I haven’t had to face this problem yet so I’m not 100% sure, but I thought the diff lock was controlled by a vacuum solenoid. If so, there ought to be a procedure in the FSM for testing the solenoid.
