I had the same problem, lots of white/blue smoke and a misfire at half revs plus. The problem was indeed the small gauze filter under the main fuel inlet pipe, this is found on the top of the fuel pump at the the cooling fan end of the engine.

Are you guys talking about the fuel banjo with the stop solenoid at the rear of the pump, or the banjo on the end of the fuel line that goes to the front right hand side ( between the pump and the engine block? As if by magic…………….. had same problem on cabstar e90, blue/white smoke, spluttering on revving up.
