Done properly, an extended front end (within reason), is as safe as a factory front end. However, the use of “slugs” is NOT a safe way to do it. If youy want an extended front end on your bike, save up the money and do it right.

Fork boots don’t seal in moisture. They’re intended to keep debris away from the wipers to extend the life of the fork. Most forks these days don’t require boots because the wipers do their job appropriately. Older forks, however, often had wiper issues and required the boots as an extra measure of defense.

Install the tube and dampener into the lower and tighten the new dampener bolt (it’s a 6 mm hex). Then install the new fork seal and drive it home with the Motion Pro 39mm Fork Seal Driver. Once the seal is seated, install the retaining clip. Then install the dust cover and cap.
