Why is oil dipstick plug leaking on 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster?
OEM oil dipstick plug leaking on my 2011 sportster, about 1 tablespoon after a long ride. What does it mean when your oil dipstick plug is leaking?
An oiled up plug indicates that the engine oil is finding its way up past the rings/piston – and if oil can find its way up to a spark plug, then exhaust gasses/compressed fuel/air can find its way into the engine oil sump and pressurise it. Another quick check is to start the engine and remove the oil dipstick.

The chrome popup oil cap on Sportsters has always been problematic, often even on the HD showroom floor you will see them not turned flush to the oil tank profile.
