Which is the best site to test a Suzuki stator?
Testing The Stator, a Pictorial Guide Testing The Stator, a Pictorial Guide (by BassCliff) The GS Resources website has a very complete fault finding chart in The Stator Papers available on the In The Garage page. This resource is very useful for understanding and troubleshooting the charging system on these classic Suzuki GS motorcycles.
How can I tell if my stator needs to be replaced?
This test makes sure that the stator isn’t shorting out to the ground. Your meter should read “OL” or open line. If the multimeter is picking up a reading, it means your stator needs to be replaced. Repeat this test for each of the windings.
What are the different wires on a Suzuki stator?
On the stock Suzuki stators the 3 output wires are different colors (yellow, blue/white, green/white). My bike has an aftermarket stator installed which has all yellow wires. The Stator Papers state, rather tongue-in-cheek, that Suzuki made the stator wires different colors only to confuse us.
What should the stator reading be on a blood test?
The reading should be less than 2 ohms but not zero (0.5-2.0 ohms). The orientation of the test leads in this procedure is not important. If any of these readings are too high or too low, you have a bad stator. In my experience, even if these readings are good, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your stator is good.

How can I tell if my stator is bad?
If you have any reading different from OL (Open Loop), you have a faulty stator. With the meter set on AC Volts, start your machine and test every combination of 2 wires from the stator’s connector. (1 with 2, 2 with 3, 3 with 1) if the 3 readings are not equal, your stator is bad. Set your meter to Ohms and repeat the same AC output test.
