Do you have to oil an air filter?
Performance air filters can cost much more than paper-based air filters. However performance air filters are reusable. You only need to clean and re-oil them every 50,000 to 100,000 miles.
Can I use a K&N filter without oil?
K&N filter elements have larger holes than stock air filters to allow more air through. The trade off is that without the oil, those larger holes would let in more dust type particles which, as anyone who knows engines will tell you, is not good for the engine.
What to do if oil drips from air box?
If you’re finding oil in the air box, leave the level where it is, clean the air box and see if it stays clean. overfilled can cause issues BUT do you really want oil mist going into the airbox where it then can enter the engine to supposedly burn + likely add deposits, kinda like the issues with todays cars + trucks with direct injection!!
Why does oil drip from the airbox on a triumph?

What causes engine oil to blow by into the air filter box?
If any cylinder tests low squirt a small amount of oil or transmission fluid into the corresponding spark plug hole and perform the test again. If the compression raises after applying oil then the piston ring for that cylinder is bad and is likely the cause of the oil blow-by. Repairing Internal Problems

How does oil get into the air filter?
The PCV valve is similar to an engine oil filter in that it eventually becomes clogged with excessive debris (in this case — engine oil) and should be replaced as recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer. If the PCV valve is not replaced as recommended, excessive oil will blow through the PCV valve and enter the air intake system.
