Many mechanical gas petcocks can be rebuilt with a repair kit that contains replacement o-rings, springs, rubber diaphragms, etc. These small parts are available from OEM dealers or aftermarket sources. The older your bike is, the more likely it is that these parts have been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Why is the cover on my petcock leaking?
To be more specific, it’s leaking around the cover on the turn lever itself. You know the cover that has “Res” “On” “Off” stamped on it. I don’t know if I’m missing an O-ring or what. I’d like to try and rebuild it before buying a new one, it is vacuum operated off a ’96 Sporty 1200. Any suggestions?
Can A H-D vacuum petcock be rebuilt?
No rebuild kits for the H-D vacuum petcock that I know of. BUT there was a recall on those petcocks back a number of years ago and the dealerships had kits in the service depts.
Can you replace a petcock on a Harley Davidson?
You can replace with any non vacuum petcock but it should be turned off every time you shut the bike off to prevent fuel over flow at the carb. Do they give their reasoning for that statement?
