What causes engine to shut down at high speed?
DESS post replacement made no difference in the cutouts at high speed…usually above 5500 rpm, the engine just shuts down as if the kill switch was pressed. Restarts instantly without having to remove/replace the lanyard on the post. 2. Engine is still boggy from idle to full speed.

As it sat for 15 minutes the PC would drip enough fuel into the FP to start and ride for a minute until it used up the fuel. The getting hot part was just how long it took to use up the fuel in the fuel pump.

My 2017 TRX500FM1 is randomly shutting off at idle and low speeds. getting worse to include when ran hard on throttle will restart after a few minutes, sometimes longer kill switch smelled burnt and resistance not in spec. replaced. Swapped relays to check No improvement. Pump maybe? Or PGM-fi unit? Never any codes displayed!

When this happened I backed off the throttle and got it back up to 4500 rpms where it ran smooth again. The motor would not die, it would just bog down and lose the power. I replaced my primer ball last fall and have inspected the fuel lines for any damage or loose fittings.

Why does Honda gcv160 engine only run wide open?
The throttle butterfly in the carb is just a crack more then at idle. When a load is applied the governor sense’s the rpm drop and allows the throttle to open further to compensate for load. Full power output is achieved under heavy load that allows the governor to open the throttle to full open but due to te load still remains near 3200 rpm.

What happens is that the gas that is in the carb evaporates and leaves behind a film, and with oil mixed in it it can be even worse than strait gas. This film biulds on the walls of your carbs jets and orafhices very similar to blood vessle restriction in oud bodies from cholesterol and fats.
