What is the breather hose called?
The crankcase breather hose helps release pressure that may build up inside the engine. In a way, it helps the engine breathe more easily by allowing proper amounts of air to get into the cylinders.
What to do when oil comes out of the hose?
If you can’t see the oil coming back into the tank, disconnect the oil return line, take the spark plugs out of the heads, and spin the engine with the starter. OIl should come out of the hose in squirts. If not, you have an oil pump problem. If it does come out of the hose, everything should be alright.
What should I do if my engine oil keeps blowing into the air filter?
Purchase an engine flush formula from your local parts store and follow the directions. In general you will pour the formula into the oil and run the engine for a period of time. Once the engine has been flushed drain the oil and fill it with fresh engine oil. Replace the filter and see if the problem persists.
What to do when oil blows out of crankcase breather tube?
You will need to remove the spring & check ball from the inner pump tower; clean the check ball, replace if pitted & re-install. Crank over the motor with the plugs out & leads grounded until the oil is out of the cases. Re-fill oil tank, warm up bike & top off oil level.
Where is the positive crankcase ventilation valve located?
The positive crankcase ventilation or PCV valve is connected to the air intake tube via a rubber vacuum hose that uses the engines natural vacuum to prevent excessive pressure build up in the engine crankcase. In most casts the PCV valve can be removed by pulling it out of the valve cover grommet and then removing the rubber vacuum hose.

Can a Harley Davidson oil pump be vented?
Venting the oil tank in a dry sump system like the one used on harleys is not a bad idea. The only reason why it is not vented from the factory is the EPA. The deal is, the oil pump in a harley pumps both oil and air back the the oil tank.
Where does the oil breather draft tube grommet go?
One of these gaskets goes on either side of the strainer. Oil Breather Draft Tube Grommet, 40hp-1600cc, 111-115-491 slips over the breather down tube, preventing the pulley tin from “sawing off” the down tube. It also seals up a potential air leak that can cause engine temps to climb.
Where does the OEM breather vent to the crank case?
The oem breather vents the head/rocker box area. The cam chest vents to the heads through the push rod tubes, and the crank case vents to the cam chest through a vent passage which is sized to insure that it also vents through the bearings, so as to lube them.
