Is the KLX250S over drive on the highway?
The Dunlop 603s seem to work very well on the street and the short hop I took down a loose gravel road felt just like knobbies should. The most pleasant surprise is the over-drive 6th gear (0.904 according to the owners manual). It will have no problem on the highway even with my fat butt loading it down.

What makes a KLX250S longer than a Stock Rod?
Kavin had the conrod purposely built 2mm longer than the stock rod. As well as raising the compression slightly, the longer conrod also makes the KLX pull stronger. ⢠Plans are afoot to alter the combustion chamber to allow higher compression without detonation on pump fuel.
What kind of carburettor does KLX250S have?
A vortex ignition replaces the stock unit and has been programmed to rev to 11,900 rpm during dyno tests, the horsepower of the KLX is still climbing when it hits the 11,900 mark. ⢠A 37mm FCR carburettor replaces the standard carby. This modification alone makes a massive improvement to the KLX’s low to mid-range performance.
How low can you go on a KLX250?
Not like in my home deserts of California . Originally I lowered the bike with lowering links 1 inch. I loved being able to get both feet on the ground for dabbing through the jungle roots and such. However in the end I went back to the stock links.
Is the KLX bike good for two miles?
The KLX is a simple machine – the LCD dash give the basics, the only storage is a small canvas bag on the tail and the seat isn’t really up to big miles or two-up use – it has pillion pegs, but they’re a token gesture and the bike struggles. But that’s fine – it doesn’t pretend to be a sophisticated machine.
How tall do you have to be to ride the KLX?
You would probably find a taller seat an improvement as well (gives more room between seat and pegs, makes standing easier) – Guts racing and several others generally carry tall seat foam. 5’6″ is more than tall enough to ride the KLX or any other bike made imho.
What kind of road manners does the KLX have?
Regarding the KLX’s road-manners, you’ll have to adjust to its docility and soft-centre. The trick is to short-shift, feeling for that little bit of torque at 3k – whip it through the box and arrive quite promptly at 55mph in top. It’ll sit there all day, content and settled, taking the occasional sip of petrol when necessary.
