Why does my Speedo not work on my sportsman?
The main reason I tell you is it is not intuitive that the 4wd would be dependant on the speedo working and the speedo isn’t cheap. There is always a possibility it is something else, which would not require you to replace the speedo. Most common cause is due to a faulty spedo sensor.

Are there speedometers on the Polaris Sportsman 500?
I know ONLY about the speedometers on Polaris Sportsman 500 ‘s for the years 1999 and 2000: If you ask me about speedometers for any other make, year or model, I can’t help you! (They may be the same – they may not – I don’t know.)
Can you bypass the speedometer for AWD?
Also have a question regarding bypassing the speedometer for AWD, are you still able to use the switch to turn your AWD off after its bypassed or is it like having full time AWD? BTW 99′ sportsman 500. I just repaired my 2000 sportsman 500 today. it had the NO LIGHTS, NO SPEED (needle), NO HOURS (digital), and NO MILEAGE (digital)issue.
Is it bad to put the speedometer backwards?
According to the Motorola datasheet Pin1 is B (Base). The Base Collector and Emitter need to be in the correct positions. You can insert it backwards. That would probably be bad if you applied power and a signal with it backwards.
