Why is my Kodiak 400 not getting a spark?
This is the old Gen air cooled, 5 speed 400 kodiak, and not the later Gen liquid cooled cvt 400 kodiaks. That is where I am doing a lot of guessing but the function of getting a spark should be generally the same. Back to the OP, to me it sounds like the CDI isn’t getting the ground signal from the pickup coil.

I thought it would get DC current from the pickup or stator could but i am not reading any, and thats with the old stator and the new rm stator.

This and foremost I am working on a 1999 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4×4 (Standard) (YFM400FWB-L)……. My friend dropped it off asking for me to look at it. Now the issue was that some of the wires were melted in the ATV and from what I can recall it was mostly ground wires.
Why is my Big Bear 400 spark not working?
I pulled the stator housing and found that the primary coil (or what ever you might call it) was mounted upside down, I removed it, turned it over, remounted it and now the machine runs perfectly. Here is some info I could not find on line regarding the primary coil:
