Why are the Dual plugs on a BMW 1150?

Many have the opinion that the dual plugs were implemented to ‘fix’ surging. BMW never claimed that. And it hasn’t. The secondary plugs help combustion and on the hexheads it helps with pinging and engine knocking. Surging can be minimized by careful tweaking of all engine adjustments.
