When did the BMW R1100R throttle system change?
Noted that your R1100R is a 1997 model. If I remember correctly, the R1100 series changed in 1996/7 from using a 2-cable Throttle/Choke system operating directly on the Throttle Bodies to a 4-cable system operating to a Bowden Box under the ABS Modulator Tray on the RH side.
Are there any problems with the BMW R1100RT?
Some of the bikes, especially GS’s but I can’t see why it might not be other R bikes, had the engine/transmission interfaces not perpendicular or otherwise lined up properly. Prone to blowing the splines regularly. From what I have heard it was on the tranny side. Sometimes you have to cut your losses!
What kind of ABS does a 1999 R1100RS have?
The bike is a 1999 R1100RS with 36,000 miles. You have basically the same ABS as in my 94 R1100RS. That generation of ABS was very sensitive to low voltage conditions. Even a decent battery may not have the “juice” during cranking, especially on cooler mornings, and especially if your starter is drawing a bigger load than it did when brand new.
What to be aware of when buying an R1100RT?
I bought an R1100RT (1999) with 60,000 miles on it 2 and a bit years ago and have been very pleased with it, apart from normal service items such as oils, filter and brake pads all i’ve replaced is the tyres, Dave. [iMO, 2500 is too low to ride the bike.
Which is better a BMW R1100RT or R1150RT?
1. (getting this out of the way, as it is entirely subjective): I prefer the R1150RT front fairing and front fender styling over the R1100RT’s. 2. The ’04 is the only year BMW made a twin-spark (two plugs/cylinder) oilhead engine, eliminating the prior oilheads’ overly-lean part-throttle surging issue.

Are there any problems with a BMW R11?
Took care of many problems. The R11’s require a slightly higher voltage that the AGM batteries offer. The main problem is the alternating ABS light problem. I would look for a bike with heated grips. Would never consider a bike without them. They are wonderful. The ABS brakes are another feature I like a lot.
How much fuel does a BMW R1100RT have?
The fuel capacity is 7.26 gallons (on my 97 RTA), which provides a range of over 300 miles, at speeds of 70mph or less. 2) The paralever/telelever suspensions is simply the best I have experienced.
