Why does my stator get hot?
This is caused by resistance. Resistance is caused poor or under gauge wiring or bad connections. Check the ground at the frame crossmember just under the back of the tank. Make sure the connector between the stator and the R/R is tight.
When do you need to test a rectifier or regulator?
If the electrical system on your vehicle isn’t charging, the problem is likely one of those three components. The only way to be sure which component in the electrical system is at fault is to test all three. In this guide, we show you how to test a regulator/rectifier. Print this guide and watch the video above for reference before you begin.
Why does my bridge rectifier keep over heating?
I always have over heating issues in the rectifier and in the primary coil. Looks like you have wired the capacitors in series, they should be in parallel across the +/- of the bridge rectifier, then the leds should be in parallel across the capacitors, with a series resistor in each.
Where does the power come from in a rectifier?
It usuallty gets an AC power feed from the stator coil of the generator (alternator). Most modern regulator rectifiers and Stators form a three phase system, so there are three wires coming from the stator feeding into the regulator rectifier.
How to test a regulator / rectifier, partzilla.com?
Testing a Regulator/Rectifier To determine that a regulator/rectifier is working properly, it’s necessary to test each of its diodes to see whether they are forward biasing (allowing current flow) and reverse biasing (preventing current flow) correctly. Regulator/rectifier units vary from model to model, and manufacturer to manufacturer.
Is it normal for a rectifier regulator to get hot?
Rode to and from work (about 100kms) and didn’t notice anything with performance. But when I got home I smelled it again, and then noticed the reg/rect was pretty hot to the touch and thought it might be what was smelling. Is this supposed to get hot (or can someone check theirs after a ride for me).

Can a hot regulator cause wiring to melt?
The regulator should be warm but not get so hot it melts the wiring. If you see any seepage from the regulator it may have gotten so hot that it melted the sealant inside of the case. When they get that hot they are not long for the world. Your charging system is not working if the voltage won’t go above 12.2.
