When did the single spark go to twin spark?

Thank you. I think year 2002 was the last of the single spark, 2003 went to the twin spark. I believe the twin spark is to eliminate surging at low revs with the real lean mixture. I removed the CatCode Plug and balanced the carbs and the surging is not noticeable.

Why are the Dual plugs on a BMW 1150?

Many have the opinion that the dual plugs were implemented to ‘fix’ surging. BMW never claimed that. And it hasn’t. The secondary plugs help combustion and on the hexheads it helps with pinging and engine knocking. Surging can be minimized by careful tweaking of all engine adjustments.
