When did the BMW R1100R bike come out?

Is the BMW 1100 on the ugly side?
In short, I find the 1100 to be on the ugly side, but those 60,000 miles on my 1150 convinced me that BMW is not about cosmetics, it’s their ability to do the job…. and do it well! #9
Why was the BMW adventure rider so boring?
As a solo I got bored due to an inability to do anything except go a long way very quickly (once the first year of BMW built in mechanical “interest” was over anyway, but even that got boring when the chrome fell off the second front shock). As an outfit the electrics were shot at six years old, so it had to go.

Is the BMW R1100GS as good as gold?
With just five ratios the R1100GS is a bit buzzy in top, but other than a fantastical appetite for oil it’s damn near unburstable. Essentially the BMW R1100GS is as good as gold. However, peer closely and the finish is average at best – the forks peel, as does the paint on the the cylinder heads.
