If your ATV does start to act up, you can perform some basic troubleshooting to get to the root of the problem. Examine the fuel system. Pull the fuel line and crank the engine to see if it’s getting gas. Check the fuel filter for a possible clog if this is the case. Also, make sure the fuel tank has gas.

If the TPS goes bad it can make the Ranger run erratically, or cause a hesitation at certain rpms. The only way to test the TPS is to use the tool Polaris designed to test it, or backprobe the yellow wire at the connector with a mutimeter and watch the voltage as you run up the throttle.

Check your oil, polaris says its impossible but believe me it happened to me over 50 times and every time it was low on oil and it would go into like a limp mode. No codes flashed or anything. Put oil in and ran like a champ You know ..

Check the wires at your crank position sensor. The sensor should be on the right rear side of the engine. Pull on the wires at the plug to see if the wires are broken inside the insulation. I have found more than one wire broken at different plugs.

To test just take a small length of wire, expose each end and put it into each side of the connector bypassing the switch and allowing it to start. I just checked and yours does have that switch. It could be on the farm behind the drivers rear wheel or next to the master cylinder behind that panel.

It senses air temp and barometric pressure, and sends a signal to the ECU so that the ECU can adjust the fuel accordingly. Most of the time when there is an issue with the TBAP it is due to broken/bare wires, or occasionally dirt on the TBAP.

Mine is anywhere from 188 to 210. What is everybody else seeing ? That sounds about right from my experience. Think my top range may fall closer to 206ish. I would like to put a temp gauge on mine is it hard to do?

The wire feed to the TPS (Throttle Positioning sensor) had a chafed spot I found when I went to inspect the TPS. I placed a piece of pipe insulation between the wiring and the Starter motor’s positive connection. It cleared up! Depending on ur machine, it should have a rev limiter, but its set at like 6300 rpms or so.

As a sidenote this same problematic fuel pump is used in many of the fuel injected Polaris quads. If you own a Polaris ATV and you are having similar symptoms simply follow the same procedure for testing the PSI.

The polaris dealer told me the negative to turning it on manually is what is you forget to turn it off because i can make it run with the key turned on honestly this is not an issue because common sense when you turn it off is to hit the toggle switch and manually turn it off. Works great and no more high temps.
