Restoring a motorcycle can be difficult. If you have no experience, you’ll certainly encounter a learning curve. However, if you’re determined, there are millions of resources out there to help you learn for free. Everything I learned about motorcycles and restoring them was from the internet and Youtube.
How reliable is Moto Guzzi?
Generally, all V7 models are pretty reliable, however they do have a few issues that you need to keep an eye out for. The spoke-wheeled models suffer from rusty spokes, so have a very good look at where they meet the rims for any signs of rust, and also check for a service history.

Why does my Guzzi bike not shut off?
When I bought the bike, it had just undergone a full service 100 miles ago, including full valve adjust and oil change. It then sat for over a month. When I bought it, the bike wouldn’t idle – it would shut off when the throttle was closed. The dealer agreed to repair and deliver it for free.

Is the oil level on a Moto Guzzi too low?
Yes those V7’s have a miniscule oil capacity, which means it doesn’t take much burn off to cause significant problems. But if you checked the level properly, and it was as you say, just below the maximum mark on the dipstick when you became aware of these issues, then I can’t see how you could be to blame.

This is the grand daddy of all modern Moto Guzzi motorcycles that was first produced 50 years ago in 1967. All Moto Guzzi bikes produced since then have been based on this design. This bike started life as a 1975 850T. I made some internal engine changes including 89.5 mm forged Venolia pistons, bringing the compression ratio to 10.5:1.
