Can a outboard motor run without starter fluid?
First of all, I know to NEVER use starter fluid in an outboard motor. I have a 1964 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp I’m trying to put back on the water. If I spray some starting fluid (WD-40 etc) into the cylinders and continue to spray directly into the Carb, it will run.

The mower will not start unless I spray starter fluid. It wouldn’t start at all, now after all the above it will start but only with starter fluid, then it runs until it is killed and will not start again unless I use starter fluid. I have read that it may be the automatic chock, how would I change that?
