When to change the oil light on a Harley Davidson?
If your oil level is correct, the light should only illuminate while starting, or when the ignition switch is on and m/c is not running. Changing to S/E syn 3 should have no bearing on anything. There may be an underlying problem. Does this engine have high miles? What is this engines history?
When did dipstick blow out on oil tank?
A gal friend of mine has a 2007 softtail….. I wasn’t there when this occured nor to see how much oil came out but i think she MUST OF been over full cause when I checked her level after a ride today, it was right on the hot full mark…I DO THINK HER OIL LEVEL WAS TOO HIGH AS NONE NEEDED TO BE ADDED….

Start with the simplest things first. Check the connectors and the wiring, Change the switch. Check the error codes. If it were me and I found nothing unusual and had replaced the switch I would check to see if it is wet sumping no matter which oil is used. The only thing I have ever had against full syn is it’s tendency to leak.

Heads up, if you are running an oil filter that is not made by Harley, that will cause a drop in pressure. Harley uses 5 micron filters. Great for increased pressure and keeps all the crap out of the oil, to a point.

Cut the trip short and returned home to check the oil and it being hot checked the manual where it should read on the stick and sure enough just a bit under the full mark for hot conditions. I would guess it was some 3/16ths below the full mark. Added just enough to bring it up to the hot full mark and the red light did not show anymore.
