Can a bad plug cause an Evo cylinder to misfire?
One other thing to check is ur ignition… if it is a dual fire it is possible that it is going bad and intermittently dropping one cylinder. Check/change your plugs…sometimes a bad or cracked plug can cause an intermittent misfire. Have 87 1100 evo and runs ruff like miss fire, higher rpms sounds good but 2 to 3 thousand rpm Sounds like misfire.
What’s the problem with my 1988 Springer Softail?
My 1988 Springer Softail has had a problem over the last 5 years or so, always the same thing. It runs like its only hitting on one Evo cylinder sometimes, but all of a sudden it will start running fine. I have had it in the shop a couple times only to have them work on carb but problem still happens.
Why does my Evo sound like a machine gun?
It ran rough at low RPM, started fine, idled fine. After about 5 minutes at 3000+ it sounded like a machine gun until I would back down. Also may not hurt to ohms check or even swap out the plug wires. I had a weak foward cylinder one that drove me crazy for a while.

What causes an intermittent misfire on a V-type engine?
In either case, the misfire might occur only under specific operating conditions. Engines equipped with variable valve timing (VVT) generally cause misfires on a single cylinder bank of a V-type engine if a cam phaser or solenoid intermittently sticks in position.
What does it mean when a cylinder is misfired?
If your scan tool’s misfire history indicates multiple cylinder misfires, focus on the cylinder with the most misfire counts. The misfire counts on adjacent cylinders are often “sympathetic” misfires that will often disappear when the primary misfire is repaired.
What causes a catalytic converter to misfire on an engine?
A disintegrating substrate in a catalytic converter can also cause intermittent misfires when the cylinders can’t draw enough air to support combustion. When dealing with an intermittent or “hard” cylinder bank misfire, it’s important to determine if the engine is equipped with a catalytic converter on each bank.
