Is there a recall on the BMW R1200 GS adventure?
Finally the Powers-That-Be have issued a recall on the 2014 through 2017 R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure from BMW for a problem with the upper triple clamp, though several complaints lodged about the bike losing power — both underway and when idling — are still in the wind.

Are there any issues with the BMW R1200GS?
Another possible ’05 (and later) issue is a cracked rear splined flange. The flange goes over the rear axle tube and holds the brake rotor and rear wheel. BMW is on its 3rd or 4th version of the flange. Mine started to crack at 50K miles, discovered as I was replacing the rear brake rotor.

I bought a new 2017 R1200GS in May, a factory-lowered version. Based upon observations of my friends’ GSAs, I had thought that the standard GSA was way, way too tall to be practical for me.
Which is better a GS or a GSA 1200?
Considering buying a GS or GSA 1200. Probably 75% road / 25% gravel. Mostly jeep and fire roads. Roads to camping / hiking trailheads. No real single track. Does the extra size and weight of the GSA significantly affect road handling? Is the GSA more suited to long distance road touring due to the increased wind protection?
