Will a bike start with the kickstand down?
Yes you can. A bike should be able to start in neutral with the kickstand down. This is normal operation. If it won’t start in neutral with the stand down, something’s wrong.
Can you bypass the side stand stop switch?
If you by-pass the clutch safety switch you can start the bike in gear. Whether or not you hold the clutch lever in is up to you. I bypassed the side stand switch so it would never be the reason the bike won’t start. Time and weather can adversely effect the switch.

Side stand bypass? Is there any way I can bypass the ridiculous side stand ‘safety’ switch on my ’91 Trophy 1200? Due to where my bike is located I need to get on and off it at least twice to get out the back gate and having to stop and restart the engine constantly is annoying.
How can I tell if my side stand is up?
Remove the two wires from the switch and and install a paper clip into both wires this will tell the system that the stand is up. This will also tell you that if the unit runs that the switch itself is bad at that point take electrical tape and rap the wires and order a new switch.
Why does my triumph start on the side stand?
