Are there any problems with a Harley Davidson?
Let’s be up front, Harley Davidson bikes aren’t known to be the most reliable or durable among the riding community. Despite that, there are enough Harley riders that most problems are well-documented with easy enough solutions. One of the main issues that plagues Harley owners have to do with the voltage regulator.
How can you tell if a Harley Davidson voltage regulator is faulty?
Another telltale sign that you’re dealing with a faulty Harley voltage regulator is that the instrument cluster fails to turn on. You should notice this after putting in the key and turning it to the on position. With a faulty regulator, none of the normal lights will illuminate.
What causes a Harley Davidson engine to fail?
The cam tensioner, camshaft, cam bearings, and cam support plate are at risk for operational failure. When and if these components do fail, they could put your engine and electrical system at greater risk for further damage.
Why is the regulator on my Harley stator not working?
The regulator protects the battery voltage and when the battery voltage climbs too high it shuts off current to ground and bleeds it off as heat. That is what the heat fins on the regulator box are for, to dissipate the heat. If the regulator did not monitor the voltage to your battery it would destroy it.
What causes a Harley Davidson to lose all power?
This can be caused by a loose neck or loose spokes (models w/spoke rims). Check your neck and tighten if nessacary. Also, can be caused by a bad wheel bearing. My first thought would be to load test the battery. 10v is low and if it he only gets a clicking when trying to start, that’s one sign of a bad battery.
