Why is my Polaris Hawkeye making a clattering noise?
It is not abused, being used mostly to ride the grandkids around the property. A year ago (at 65 hours) the bike developed a clattering sound behind the cover at my left ankle on the bike. The noise was most noticable in neutral if you revved it and let it wind down.

No surging, no hick-ups. When you rev it, it blows. It sputters, backfires, pops..you name it. Not so much sitting still but every time when under load. And it’s probably from 1/4 throttle all the way up. At WOT after a few seconds, it seems to clear out and then it screams but if I keep it there too long, it wants to start stalling out on me.

I have had my 2009 hawkeye since new and it just started the noise you mention. 200 hours still under warranty the dealer mechanic was hoping it was a clutch bearing but no such luck. Its a bearing in the starter clutch and requires the whole back end pulling apart.

What kind of brakes does a Polaris Hawkeye have?
They are operated with the usual Polaris single lever left hand brake and one foot brake. The Hawkeye is equipped with twenty-two-inch tires and has a forty-six-inch wheelbase, giving it a rather tight turning radius of 105 inches.
