Is it normal for the oil gauge to bounce?
My bosses does that too, but it’s a 99-02 GMC. Yea I read a few articles on other trucks doing this too, sounds like a sender issue. The actual pressure wouldn’t be wildly fluctuating like that. My old truck didn’t do that at all, so it worried me a little bit, but it seems like it’s common for a bunch of different trucks.
What do oil pressure and temp gauges do?
I installed the VDO Oil Pressure and Temperature gauges in my 1970 VW, but will give you the concept on installing them in any vehicle. These VDO gauges are awesome on giving you information on what your engine status is at, and to warn you about possible problems going on with your engine. Oil Pressure & Water Temperature & Volmeter 3 in 1 gauge kit.Includes oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature. Gauge insures greater accuracy and provide a wider margin of safety than indicator lights. Gauges are illuminated. They are clean and easy to read. Comes with complete accessories for installation.
Where does the capillary tube go for an oil temperature gauge?
If you are fitting a mechanical gauge the capillary tube must be routed from the rear of the gauge, through the bulkhead and into the engine compartment. Drill a hole in the bulkhead and fit a grommet for the tube to pass through.

What kind of oil pressure gauge does AEM use?
AEM’s digital oil pressure gauges include a 0-5v analog output for use with data loggers and virtually any engine management system, such as the Infinity ECU, Series 2 EMS or AQ-1 Data Logger, making them the perfect solution for users who need to monitor and data log oil pressure at high RPM on tuned engines.
When does the oil pressure go up or down?
The gauge doesn’t do this until the car warms up. On the highway the pressure stays up where it’s supposed to be. It doesn’t start bouncing around until I am driving around in the city neighborhoods going at lower speeds.
How does the oil pressure gauge work on a car?
I found the oil pressure gauge is NOT an actual oil pressure gauge. When the sending unit reaches 4 1/2 pounds of pressure, it sends a signal to a computer. That computer then monitors other engine stuff like speed, RPMs, Temperature and simulates an oil pressure.
How do you check your oil pressure while driving?
Locate the oil pressure sending unit on the engine (the parts store can sometimes tell you where it is), remove it and follow the instructions that come with your universal oil pressure gauge to hook it up. Then drive the car and see what the gauge does. Be careful to watch the road as you do this. Don’t become fixated on watching the gauge.
Is there an oil pressure gauge on a dumptruck?
Those were my exact words about a 1997 Ford 460 in a dumptruck. Then the engine had to be replaced. Learned my lesson! Get a mechanical oil pressure gauge on there immediately.
