Can you test a regulator rectifier?

Can you test a regulator rectifier?

To test a regulator/rectifier, you’ll need a digital multimeter with diode testing capabilities. If you don’t already own a multimeter, now is a good time to get one.

How to fix a common regulator / stator failure?

Now disconnect the rectifier/regulator from the alternator, normally 3 yellow wires on a Honda, then set the meter to OHM’s (resistance) then measure the resistance between each of the wires on the alternator side plug. It should be less than 1 ohm & then measure each wire to earth, as in the frame of the bike or engine bolt, it should not read.

What should the AC voltage be on a Honda stator?

It should run with a good battery and the rectifier disconnected. With it running and rectifier disconnected there should be an AC voltage on all 3 phases ( Yellow Wires). Probably around 30 volts with the engine reved up to the 5000 RPM the charging system is speced at. The rectifier needs good ground to charge.

How can I tell if my stator connector is defective?

Ohms Test. You will need a multimeter set to Ohms for this test. Test every lead of the stator’s connector and note the readings. The reading of each combination should be the same (test leads 1-2, 2-3, and 3-1). If they are different, your stator is defective.

Can a bad stator cause a battery to fail?

If the stator is bad, then chances are the R/R test will fail too. Voltage readings at the battery can be bad while you have a good R/R and a bad stator…. Then also, you can have both bad.. >>>> That is why you need to do the testing in total to get the big picture of the system. (August 2019)

Why do I have difficulty opening my Honda stator cover?

When I had to replace my stator I had difficulty opening stator cover.Reason is Honda gasket has glue which really creates strong binding.Someone here suggested using rubber millet on the side cover and it worked.I really sweated on that one. Being frugal and imaginative I decided to make my own gasket from cereal box paper.
