Is there a problem with my Evo cylinder?
& filed under Harley Tips. Need Help. My 1988 Springer Softail has had a problem over the last 5 years or so, always the same thing. It runs like its only hitting on one Evo cylinder sometimes, but all of a sudden it will start running fine.
Can a bad plug cause an Evo to misfire?
Check/change your plugs…sometimes a bad or cracked plug can cause an intermittent misfire. Have 87 1100 evo and runs ruff like miss fire, higher rpms sounds good but 2 to 3 thousand rpm Sounds like misfire. Need direction to go to eliminate problem? Have changed plugs and fuel additive in case of bad gas
Why does backfiring on a Harley Davidson cause a fire?
Excessive backfiring can also emit small flames from the exhaust, which can cause a fire. Many of the Harley-Davidson’s that have excessive backfiring have bad mileage because the fuel is being wasted. The fuel is supposed to be ignited inside the bike’s combustion chamber.

Why does my Harley Davidson Evo keep missing?
It starts fine (kick only) and idles well, usually it even runs fine if you are using very little throttle, although I seem to feel a little surging even then. When you go to give it some throttle though, it starts spitting back through the carb and missing.

What to do if your Evo backfiring is missing?
Checked the compression, checked the pushrods and the valves to see if they were opening. Put in new exhaust seals. Checked the timing, checked the coil. The VOES is working correctly. I’ve got good fuel flow. I even put another CV from my buddy’s bike on and no difference. Anyway, I am stumped and don’t know what to try next.
