How do I know if my ATV is running lean or rich?
The easiest way is to pull the plugs. Black = rich / white = lean and a light tan = just right. A black dry fluffy colored plug is caused by deposits from a carburetor that is running too rich (too much gas), or excessive idling on some engines. Black smoke coming from the exhaust is a sign of a rich air/fuel mixture.
What’s the idle speed on a Yamaha bike?
The bike hasn’t been running to my knowledge for 4-5 months. Prior to my purchase the previous owner, a friend, said he cleaned the carbs. Basically, she’ll start up fine and idle around 1500-2000 rpm (full choke) but upon going to 1/2 choke or giving her any throttle, she dies.

Why does my motorcycle engine keep sputtering out?
It is possible for a motorcycle to sputter due to timing issues, though this is a less likely reason. It’s pretty hard to have the timing randomly start getting off by itself and is usually caused by either someone rebuilding the engine and getting the timing off or someone tried to fix the timing themselves previously.

The warrior idles fine. I’ve adjusted to air mix screw back and forth. It changes the idol but doesn’t seem to improve things when I try to rev it up. 2.25 turns seems to be the sweet spot, as far as idol. The needle is where zoom put it.

Clean the carb,run some sea foam through it,if that doesn’t work,try your timing.if all else fails it could be a sticky valve and or a bent valve ( I ran a bike on a bent valve for 2 months before it blew) How do you check the valves. I’m not a mechanic but I can do the small stuff. Lol I have a 89 warrior. I put it in the shed during deer season.
