Is the shift button on a Honda rancher good?
We used an ohm meter to test the shifting buttons and the angle sensor (just below the shifting motor on the front of the engine). The angle sensor reads good in its two positions, all wiring seems good, the shift buttons are good.
Why does my Honda ATV not shift gears?
ATVs with an electric shifter, like the Honda AS models, uses an electric motor to shift through the gears. If the motor does not work, the bike will not shift gears. The only way to make it shift is by using the emergency shifter (a short-shifting shaft sticking out the left lower side of the engine, use the supplied gear change tool).

Can a manual shift work on a Honda rancher?
The manual shift works though. I’ve had problems with the reverse sensor wire falling off the connector in the past. When I bought the ATV, the rubber boot was missing and the wire was just held on with a metal clip. I used pliers to tighten it on and it has stayed on.

Thanks TooDeep and Rich, you guys really helped me pinpoint the problem! I pulled off the cover to the shift angle sensor. The angle sensor was cracked in half! I put the pieces back together, put some electrical tape along the outside, and plugged it back in. I tested the shifter before bolting it back in… it worked!
