Is the Chevy 2500HD a diesel or Hydroboost?
Hey Everyone! Enter your ride HERE to be a part of this months Ride of the Month Challenge! Ok first off I will say my truck is not a diesel it is gas but I figured who knows more about hydroboost the people who have Diesels. I have a 2002 Chevy 2500hd 4×4 6.0l gas. I went ahead and replaced my power stering and also my steering box do to leaking.
What to do if your Duramax Hydroboost goes out?
Check the hydroboost and make sure its not leaking IE the seals because it can cause air in as well. If its all ok then what I would do is flush the system out and bleed. If the problem still comes about its just your pump going out. @ brokesmoke ya I don’t think it should cause your pump to whine.
How does the Hydroboost work on a diesel?
Since diesel’s do not create vacuum, the assistance method changed from vacuum (older diesels had a vacuum pump) to pressurized fluid. This might help to understand how the hydroboost is tied to the brakes and steering at the same time. The lines and brake fluid inside the master cylinder are completely separate from the hydrobooster system.
Can a Hydro Boost cause no brake pedal?
The hydro boost will not cause no pedal. It is designed to have manual brakes if the PS pump fails or runs out of fluid. Your brakes would just be harder to push. Just FYI for the future. Did you find the recommended reading relevant to this discussion?

Why is my Hydroboost not working on my Chevy Duramax?
He said something about the reman pumps that just dont work well with hydroboost. He told me they finaly gave up and called the Chevy dealer up the road and replaced the reman pump with a brand spanking new GM quality pump. After they installed the pump he said they bled it for maybe 30sec and could tell a diference.

How is a Hydro Booster similar to a vacuum booster?
The hydro-booster is the same as a vacuum booster only runs off of fluid power. The power steering pump supplies the pressurized fluid to both the steering and braking components. When you press the brakes, pressure is used to increase the pressure of the brake fluid making it easier to stop the vehicle.
