Why does my Honda Shadow VT700C run lean?
Please try again later. Here is a good example of a 1987 Honda Shadow VT700C that is running lean. Initially I thought it may be due to vacuum leaks, which are really common on older motorcycles. However, after checking for vacuum leaks & reading a few forums, I came to the conclusion that they come lean from the factory.

What do I need to know when my motorcycle wont start?
If you don’t already have one, a trickle charger or Battery Tender is a good investment; as is an inexpensive voltmeter. With the engine off, the battery should read in the vicinity of 12.5 volts. What kind of car is the Honda VT600 Shadow?

When to shut off fuel in Honda Shadow?
Even if that is the case, the float and needle valve in the carb should shut the fuel off when the bowl gets full. If it doesn’t, the carb needs work; what the petcock is or is not doing has no bearing on that. The petcock is working properly. I had it to “off” overnight, and I still had a hard time starting it today.
Which is better Honda VT600 or Yamaha Virago?
More softness, but not to universal success. The Honda VT600 Shadow’s riding position is more laid-back than rivals such as the Yamaha Virago putting more weight on your backside and making it less comfortable over distance. Nor is it a handler with that short travel rear suspension, kicked out forks, skinny front tyre and weedy brakes.

What to do when your Honda Shadow loses power?
You can put a piuece of hose on that nipple and turn the screw out about 3 turns. That’s the drain. Use the hose to direct the draining fuel into a suitable container and then re-tighten (gently until it seats) the drain screw. That ought to do it!
Why does my Honda Shadow hesitate during acceleration?
Only happens during acceleration. When I open up the throttle it hesitates then all of the sudden the engine responds. It seems to be worse in the lower gears (1 & 2) and lessens in the higher gears. The warmer the bike, the less issue, but even when warm and run a while it still exhibits this problem.

The needles are not adjustable, so I took some small washers totalling .040” thick and placed them under the needle to raise it up some. This provides more fuel in the ¼-1/2 throttle range. Coupled with a larger pilot jet, the throttle response has greatly improved. The power output has also increased.

Also with my mileage I suppose the value goes down considerably but 50-55 mpg beats the 25 mpg in the car anyday and I am addicted. Like said already, find a mechanic to check it out. I saw a beautiful 2001 Shadow 1100 at an auction that had 11,000 miles but did not have $4K to meet the reserve.
Where is the air mixture screw on a VT750DC?
To get rid of that nasty popping on decel, you have to have more fuel at idle. Is the Honda 750 engine set up wrong?
IMO, the 750 out of the factory is geared wrong, jetted wrong, piped wrong, choked of air at the intake; the spark advance is much too mild and the engine is held at bay by its rev-limiter. In other words, it’s a great little engine but it’s set up all wrong!

Is the Honda Shadow 600 a bulletproof bike?
Im a Honda man and every Honda bike (three wheeler and quad) I’ve owned is practically bulletproof. Hopefully their street bikes are the same. I am fairly new to Hondas, but it would be safe to say your 600 will continue the ‘bulletproof’ tradition. I’ve been very pleased with mine. I can only compare it to Harleys.
