What does it mean when your ATV backfires?

ATVs usually backfire because of a short, sudden moment where the engine is running too rich or too lean. That means that it’s either getting more fuel than it needs for the amount of air it takes in, or else not enough.

How long does a Polaris ATV run before it dies?

It runs about 10 minutes, dies. The really weird part is that if you let it sit about 5 minutes it starts right back up again and runs great again. That is until it dies again.

Why does my Polaris ATV run out of gas?

It acts like it runs out of gas OR the spark fails. I put a new fuel filter, fuel pump, and nice fresh gas on it. I seen on the polaris site that the spark plug cap can be bought apart from the coil. Could it possibly be a coil problem?

What to do if your Polaris bike won’t start?

Just spray a small amount on the coil, then try to start the bike. If it starts, then problem solved. If it doesn’t start, then it means more troubleshooting. Good luck! Check the fuel tank vent hose to see if it is plugged or kinked.

Why does my Polaris Ranger stall at even RPMs?

It will cut out when you give it throttle, it always is preceded with one hesitation. When acceleration is applied it staggers and farts, until you let off the throttle, then it will run fine at an even RPMs until accelerator is pushed. It will always start right up if it dies and will idle.

How does a 1998 Polaris 425 Magnum 4 stroke work?

I have a 1998 polaris 425 magnum 4 stroke. I starts up and idles fine but when I put ii in gear and bring up the rpms it bogs down. No power acts like it wants to die out and backfires. Bring down the throttle and it idles fine. Just will not take a load. This quad has just been tuned up and carb replaced. Submitted: 6 years ago.

Is the air filter on my Polaris 425 Magnum New?

Yes the air filter is new, oil and filter has been changed. Replaced the clutch belt. I can drive it around in low rpm fine but when I give it throttle to speed up thats when it starts or try to climb a small hill forget it. Just did that, runs very poorly hardly at all, it won’t even throttle up.

What this really means is that the equilibrium that is needed to cause the vehicle to work properly is off, and you will likely experience the resulting backfiring. However, too much fuel could indicate a fuel leak, and too little air could indicate a clogged component of your vehicle such as the air filter, exhaust, or beyond.

Is there a problem with the Suzuki quadmaster 500 ignition?

Here is the issue: Initially the quad ran great, didn’t have any backfiring issues IF the ignition switch was turned all the way to the second click which is the lights on position. It would start and run fine. However, if the quad was run on the first ignition click – lights off, it would backfire and not run.

When does a Polaris Sportsman 500 lose power?

It does not back fire. When climbing a hill or on flat ground it reaches a certain power level and that’s all. Once in awhile when climbing a hill it will get it’s power back for just a second then return to its lower power level no matter how much throttle you give it.

Why does my ATV fire at the wrong time?

This means that it’s firing at the wrong time, which is usually because of failing ignition coils, failing high tension leads, or spoilt connectors and switches. When you don’t ride your ATV for a long time, the fuel inside its tank starts to degrade.

What should I do if my ATV backfires?

Meaning that air flowing into your engine is getting chocked off somewhere. Many a time, it’s at the air filter. So if your ATV keeps backfiring, first check the air filter. If it’s full of deposits and large sediments, replace it (for paper filters) or wash it (for foam filters). This should assist in balancing out the fuel/ air ratio.

What causes a spark plug to backfire on an ATV?

Backfiring occurs when one (or more) spark plug in the ATV engine ignites the fuel when it’s out of turn in the chamber, and the exhaust valve on the cylinder is open. In other words, ATV backfiring occurs due to a short, sudden instance when the engine is too lean or too rich.
