What was the last time my car backfired?
The last time I tried to start it, it backfired through the exhaust! With various carb issues in the past i have been able to get some kind of a different result by cupping the intake tube with my hand, while trying to start it.

My 2015 EFI EPS 570 Sportsman is one year old. Got about 40 hours on it. Drove around in some high water out at the deer lease last weekend (Houston area, lots of rain). After riding for a couple hours, we hit the hard pack dirt road and opened up the wheelers for some much needed speed and fresh air.
What causes a backfiring plug on an ATV to pop?
Cruising shouldn’t cause any problems if all fuel is burned in the combustion process. A misfiring plug will certainly put raw fuel into the exhaust and do a lot of popping as it is getting air with the fuel, thus exploding when it reaches the hot exhaust.

Hi folks, just a little info, the term backfire is through the intake system and afterfire / popping through the exhaust. Popping out the exhaust is a rich fuel from a closed throttle during the transition from on the throttle to abruptly closing the throttle.
Are there any issues with the Sportsman 800?
If there is another thread or sticky or anything, please include the link. I wasn’t able to find one specific to the 800 HO. I have my 2008 Sportsman 800 torn apart for a Fuel Pump replacement and would like to know if there are any other repairs I should perform in the downtime instead of IF they occur later. Clutch cover sealing – The clutch cover and the clutch backing plate are not sealed well, or at all, letting water into the clutch/belt system Ignition Coil wire harness/connector – The harness is traditionally pulled too tight causing stress on the connector at the coil and causing a no spark issue

That kind of popping/backfiring. You know how if it’s advanced too far it starts real hard and rough but will rev to the moon, but if it’s retarded too much, it starts super fine but sputters and bucks and spits and kicks. Would a sheered woodruff key put off symptoms like this?

Sometimes the backfire is a couple seconds after the engine quits turning. The engine was dead cold (never got it started) & it was like 35 degrees out. I will try & confirm tomorrow if I am getting spark while the starter is cranking.

I siliconed a different intake on, thinking vacuum leak, but still same thing!I cant even get a sputter out of it unless i choke it, and that just makes it backfire really bad a couple of times.One time it popped the carb out of the intake boot! I messed with it all day Sat. and all day today.
