It runs about 10 minutes, dies. The really weird part is that if you let it sit about 5 minutes it starts right back up again and runs great again. That is until it dies again.

I have my 2008 Sportsman 800 torn apart for a Fuel Pump replacement and would like to know if there are any other repairs I should perform in the downtime instead of IF they occur later. Pull the front plastic the gas tank and take off the valve cover. I’ll bet you the cams worn out. Took me about 10 to 15 mins to get the front plastic and the gas tank out. Talked to the polaris dealer a few days ago and he’s pretty sure it’s a cam going out. He guessed it would be around $800 parts and labor.

I pulled my fuel line to the carb and started it, when I gave it throttle it pumped more gas so I know it has gas to the carb. It seemed to run the same with the line pulled, until the remaining gas in the carb ran out. That makes me think it’s a fuel issue with the carb.

That kind of popping/backfiring. You know how if it’s advanced too far it starts real hard and rough but will rev to the moon, but if it’s retarded too much, it starts super fine but sputters and bucks and spits and kicks. Would a sheered woodruff key put off symptoms like this?
