Why does my bike not go into neutral?
The main reason why your bike won’t shift to neutral is because the clutch cable does not have enough slack. A loosened or a strongly tightened clutch cable will create problems while changing the gears. You need to adjust the clutch by giving it the required slack.
What’s the best gearing for a Honda Rebel 250?
The only gearing higher than a 15/28 I’ve tried, is a 15/25t gearing. This is about 50% higher geared than stock. This type of gearing is harder on the clutch from a standstill, especially uphill with 2, but any novice knowing how to use a clutch properly, could start it.
Is the Honda foot shift electric or manual?
Many of us have Electric Shift (ES) models. In fact, Honda sells approximately EIGHT times as many ES models for every foot-shift model sold. The ES models are very reliable. But, because of the number of ES machines that are sold and owned, it sometimes seems that there are more difficulties with ES shifting than with manual shifting.
Is there a problem with Honda es shift?
Unfortunately, there has been one problem with ES shifting that has affected many ES owners at one time or another: The problem is that, at times, when you make a shift (up or down) on an ES machine, the shift is not complete.
Do you need to change sprocket on Honda Rebel?
For those reasons, the rebel needs a sprocket change from the stock 14/33t. I’ve ran quite a few sprocket combinations on it, and my advise is highly subjective, so you might feel different about it than I do.
I sat on the bike and realised that it would not go into neutral when the engine is running. I checked the clutch is adjusted properly which it was. 5.) I then turned the engine off and it shifts through all the gears and put it into neutral with out any problems.

Right, I just picked up a Honda CBF250F thats been sat for 6 months. Its only got 7000 miles on the clocks.
When do you go from neutral to 1st gear?
Hard to avoid somewhat of a clank or slight jerk when going from neutral to 1st. There is always some slack between the transmission shaft and the gear internal splines. Slack between the gears, slack here and there, even though it is just a few thousandts of an inch will all add up to a small “clunk”.
What to do when your gears won’t engage?
To free them, with the transmission fully in first, try pushing the bike (now WITH the clutch lever applied). Alternatively, you may be able to free them by starting the motor while in first with the clutch lever applied. You’ll need to be careful of the bike taking off on you (use the brakes).

Why does my bike not go into gear?
Shift the bike into gear. Try manually rotating the primary clutch; the bike should move. If the bike does not move, you likely have an issue inside the gearbox. One of the most common issues one could be facing with a gearbox’s internals is having a worn or bent shift fork.
