When to replace cam chain on Honda 350cc twins?
The early Honda 350cc twins had a tensioner controled by oil pressure. Check your shop manual. If the Cam Chain is real noisy and the noise does not go away when you adjust it, the Cam Chain is worn out and needs to be replaced.
What should I do if I can’t replace my cam chain?
If you can’t replace the Cam Chain, you can try to add a little more tension to the Cam Cahin adjuster by installing a stronger tensioner spring or by pushing on the tensioner rod and locking it in position with the tensioner rod lock bolt and nut. Try to put just enough pressure to stop the noise.
How is the chain tensioner installed on a car?
To do this the tensioner is temporarily installed, set, and the engine turned over at least four times to allow the tensioner to self tension. Once the chain tensioner has absorbed the chain slack it is removed and the plunger position is noted.
What happens to cam chain when timing chain wears?
The remaining problem, which applies regardless of whether the engine is stock or modified when the timing chain has worn, is that the cam chain tensioner will have quite a job trying to take slack out of the valvetrain. When a timing chain elongates it may not do so in a uniform way and parts of the chain may be tighter or looser than others.
When did I start posting pictures of my Honda Nighthawk?
Many of them take the time to send me a picture of their motorcycle, and starting back in 2003 I decided to start posting them here. Grab a camera and have someone take a picture of you on your Nighthawk. Then email me using this form and I will get back to you.
What kind of engine does a Honda Nighthawk have?
Brand new Keihin 118 main jet and 40 primary. This thing takes of like a rocket ship and louder than any other bike in my area. Lots of heavy gauge steel wool fixed that, but I would not recommend anything past 6k RPM. Drove myself nuts for about a month playing with these carbs. No mater what, there’s a brick wall at 6 grand.
How do you adjust the cam chain on a motorcycle?
That is, with no tension placed on the Cam Chain. You do this by removing the spring from the end of the adjuster shaft, releasing the one way lock, if there is one, and push the adjuster shaft to it’s loosest postion or by pushing the adjuster shaft, under spring pressure, in and locking it with the adjuster pinch bolt.
