What to do if you have a Harley Davidson chain tensioner problem?
This is the standard fix that Harley dealerships will give you unless you want to go with the gear driven system and cams, which is again our first suggestion depending on you budget of course. First just wanted to say thanks for the great content you guys put out.
When to replace a primary chain tensioner shoe?
The tech support lady was very nice, but only suggested that the primary must have been low on oil which was not the case. Rather than send me a new kit, they will replace the shoe only when the primary oil I have to replace cost more than the Nylon shoe.
Why is the Hayden chain tensioner better than the original?
The tension system on the Hayden is a better design than the original Harley because as the primary chain heats and cools, the Hayden keeps a consistent pressure on the chain as it expands and contracts. I did the entire install using the jiffy stand which made draining the old oil easy.
Is the chain tensioner on my 2015 SG working?
Working great in my 2015 SG with 13K miles. The stock self-adjusting (?) tensioner had the primary chain super tight (This is very bad on IPB and crank bearings). There is no noise coming from this chain tensioner even on initial break-in. Be sure to install without the spring on to check for proper up and down movement before final install.

When to take cam chain tensioner shoes off?
You should not be concerned about inspecting them until somewhere between 80 and 100k. If you ever have your exhaust off before then, pull your cam cover and get a look at them. Just for piece of mind.
