Why is my carburetor not shutting off the fuel?
When it overflows the carb and goes down into the hot intake, it vaporizes and you see the vapor come back up through the carb to the outside. The float is either set too high, or the float valve is not shutting off the flow of fuel. I’ve never heard of a mechanical fuel pump overpowering the float valve.
Can a CARB be tuned to run at full potential?
If you can tune a carb to deliver a consistent A/F within this range, the engine will usually run at its full potential from off-idle to wide open throttle. The air/fuel ratio will change with ambient temperature, barometric pressure and humidity.
What to do if your CARB is not working?
If when running, even if you have a new carb, the float valve is not doing it’s job. Have the carb rebuilt one more time, with new float valve and set the float to the right level. -I would think a 1968 would have a ‘vented’ fuel tank cap. Do you have the correct cap?
Can a carburetor be modified on a race car?

If you can, try cleaning the fuel line out and replacing the fuel filter to make sure you’re getting fuel to the carburetor. Inspect the fuel pump for wear and loose or cracked hoses. If there is no vacuum in the hose, you’re carb won’t get any fuel. This is most likely caused by a crack in the vacuum fuel lines or a bad fuel pump.
Where is the gas pump located on a carbureted car?
On a carbureted car with a single fuel send line and a fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment, it’s often easier to simply substitute a gas can and stick a rubber fuel hose in it and run it to the input side of the fuel pump.
Why is there no fuel in my gas tank?
If there is, then you have no problems getting fuel from the gas tank and it is probably a needle valve or float problem. If there’s no fuel coming from the tank down that fuel line, then you’re problem may be an issue with the fuel pump, if you have one, or an obstruction in the fuel line or shut off valve.
What to do if your carburetor float valve is not working?
You can try cleaning the needle valve using carb cleaner. Just soak the thing and let it sit in carb cleaner for a few hours. If that didn’t help, or you just don’t want to do it, no big deal.
