That kind of popping/backfiring. You know how if it’s advanced too far it starts real hard and rough but will rev to the moon, but if it’s retarded too much, it starts super fine but sputters and bucks and spits and kicks. Would a sheered woodruff key put off symptoms like this?

I just had the carb rebuilt by a Polaris dealer. It runs great. Idles perfect, accelerates great, perfect. That is until it dies. It acts like it runs out of gas OR the spark fails. I put a new fuel filter, fuel pump, and nice fresh gas on it. I seen on the polaris site that the spark plug cap can be bought apart from the coil.
What to do when your Polaris bike dies?
Feel the coil just after the bike dies to see how warm it is. If you find the coil very warm, then I would use some freeze spray, which is available at auto parts stores. Just spray a small amount on the coil, then try to start the bike. If it starts, then problem solved. If it doesn’t start, then it means more troubleshooting.
Are there any problems with the XC 800?
My brothers boss rides an 01 XCR 800, it has over 5000 miles on it and hasn’t had one engine glitch or anything. Most of the tuning issues with the 800 triple were solved by 98-99 and any year after that seems to be trouble free. The 800 twins on the other hand still seem to be having teething issues that would make me weary for sure.
Are there any issues with the XCR 800 Liberty twin?
The 800 Liberty twin has some issues with crank failure at around 2-3000 miles. I have yet to see a thread on here that has issues with an XCR… The big block twins are sure nice for low end torque, if you do a lot of stuff in deep powder and don’t want to spin the track, they work awesome.

Is there an XC 800 twin that can keep up?
I have a XCR 800 and man what a all around great sled. There is no 800 twin that can keep up at any range for long. The only problem I had was track spin! Witch I solved with a 1.25′ Ripsaw track. Clutching it woke it up allot as well. Other wise it is a great sled I never Jet it. I have rode in temps from -40 to +5 and runs great.

Why does my Polaris Pro rider keep popping?
No surging, no hick-ups. When you rev it, it blows. It sputters, backfires, pops..you name it. Not so much sitting still but every time when under load. And it’s probably from 1/4 throttle all the way up. At WOT after a few seconds, it seems to clear out and then it screams but if I keep it there too long, it wants to start stalling out on me.
